A Master’s Degree in Yoga Therapy and Education

Kim M. Kim M.

If you are ready to make a difference in your community and to help make the world a better place, then you may wish to consider a Master’s degree in yoga therapy and education.

Courses may also include components of clinical massage and Pilates. Essential Yoga Therapy is proud to be entering into the second phase of its fourth batch of the IAYT accredited Therapeutic Yoga Teacher Training Course set to begin in Fall 2021. This is a landmark year for the IAYT, and is truly a great moment for yoga therapy education and growth. We are thrilled to welcome Lora Sandusky, MSW, BS, and founder of Sandusky Yoga, as our newest instructor of this important course. Lora has over 25 years of experience teaching yoga therapy to therapists of all kinds in the western and eastern parts of the United States and is widely regarded as one of the most dynamic yoga therapy teachers in the country.

A Master’s Degree in Yoga Therapy and Education

In her introductory role as an IAYT teacher training program coach, Lora will lead the teachers through a practice session with their local practice clients. During this time, she will also conduct a Skype interview with each of the yoga therapists to discuss what is holding them back from being a full-fledged IAYT certified therapist. She hopes that this candid and informative conversation will open up dialogue between the yoga therapists and the IAYT teachers and therapists about the expectations and standards of this amazing program. In the end, she hopes that the fullness of this first encounter will give rise to the confidence, compassion, and open communication that everyone on the IAYT teacher training program must have.

Lora will have many opportunities to share with the IAYT therapists about the benefits of IAYT certification, and how the yoga training program can benefit them as well. She will discuss why it is so important for the yoga therapists to have IAYT certification. For example, IAYT certification is not only a requirement for licensure in some states, but it is also the minimum educational requirement for certification by other professional and non-profit organizations. This means that anyone who wishes to pursue a career as a registered yoga therapist in the United States or Canada has a responsibility to complete the required IAYT training. It is important to note that all of the IAYT certification requirements vary from state to state, and Lora will be very knowledgeable about these requirements. Also, she will have classes and seminars for those who have never completed an IAYT course.

Along with discussing the benefits of IAYT certification, Lora will also touch on the benefits of having a Master’s degree in yogic studies, as well as other professional degrees. As a matter of fact, she will encourage aspiring yogic instructors to pursue graduate studies, as long as it is within her framework of teaching. She will also tell potential students that in addition to having a general knowledge of yoga therapy, they should also be cognizant of their related areas of study and choose a major accordingly. It should be noted that Lora has been an active participant in the development of IAYT since it was first introduced to the United States in 1985.

She is active in teaching, research, and service in her community. In fact, she serves on the Executive Committee of the Certification Board for Yoga Therapists and Practitioners, as well as serving on the National Board of Certification for Yoga Therapists and Therapeutic Massage Specialists. With these experiences, one can see how qualified she is to lead the IAYT program. If you are seeking a yoga therapist or practitioner, and you believe you have what it takes to become a yoga therapist/performancer, it may be time to consider a Master’s degree in yoga therapy and education.

If you are ready to make a difference in your community and to help make the world a better place, then you may wish to consider a Master’s degree in yoga therapy and education.
