Does Yoga Actually Helps Weight Loss?

Kim M.

While yoga can definitely help you lose weight, you will not lose fat around your midsection.

It does not promote weight loss. There are a lot of people out there who wonder does yoga actually help weight loss? The answer to that question is yes and no. As a matter of fact, the answer may surprise you. While yoga can definitely help you lose weight, you will not lose fat around your midsection. Yoga can definitely help you shed those excess pounds in the abdominal area, but it is not a sure-fire weight loss solution. Sure, you will lose weight. There are a few different kinds, each with its own benefits and limitations.

The Ashtanga variety of yoga is fast-paced and vigorous, using intense, energetic asanas (poses) that hit and deliver sudden, powerful kicks, as well as the occasional twist or lock. Does yoga actually help weight loss by speeding up your metabolism? Well, there are several people out there that have increased their metabolism when they did yoga. However, most people do not increase their metabolism to the point where it would double.

Does Yoga Actually Helps Weight Loss?

Therefore, if you wanted to double your weight in a short amount of time you would need to run four miles per hour. You will not be able to do this in yoga. Yoga will help you burn calories and fats. Therefore, you will lose weight.

However, you will not necessarily lose weight around your middle. Some people are just naturally leaner that does not mean they cannot pack on some extra mass. In fact, many of the people that are considered to be among the ‘athletic crowd’ are just naturally lean. So, does yoga really help weight loss? It may be an effective way for your to lose weight.

However, you will not lose fat around your middle. You will lose fat on both sides of your body. This may be a shock to you, but the scientific research into yoga does not support the use of yoga as a weight loss mechanism. The reason is that yoga is a form of exercise. It does not promote weight loss. As a matter of fact, yoga is probably more effective for keeping you toned then for weight loss.

There is a difference between dieting with yoga versus dieting with the other forms of exercise. There is no better way to keep yourself toned and fit then by practicing yoga. That way, you will get the benefit of doing yoga routines with other people who want to lose weight and get fit. The increased focus that you will have while working out is going to help you burn calories and lose weight.
