Kim M. Kim M.

Many people suffer from mild or extreme shyness, they often feel that exposing themselves to the world becomes a problem, either for fear of embarrassment or for others to judge you. Is it normal? Here are 8 tips to overcome shyness.

In different aspects of our lives we have gone through uncomfortable moments in which shyness is the protagonist, be it in our childhood, during the years of study, in social gatherings, in our jobs, and even with our partners.
It is completely normal to go through such shy situations.

That fear of socializing accompanies many people throughout their lives. The problem is when shyness becomes an obstacle, an extreme case that can cause physical, mental, and social difficulties.

Shyness can be overcome if you face it and it is not about hiding, because a person who denies his extreme shyness, only makes his condition more difficult.
You have to know how to differentiate shyness from introversion because although they seem the same, they are not.

Introverts are people who prefer solitude most of their time, but this does not mean that they are unable to socialize or have social encounters.

On the other hand, a shy person is one who wants to lead a more exposed life, meet people, practice different activities, but is self-conscious about the possible rejection they may have.
Shy people often feel constantly judged by others and this causes them a lot of frustration and anxiety.

Specialists have stated that it is normal to feel anxiety for different life situations, since anxiety is a natural response of the organism when it feels threatened, but if anxiety controls you at all times, then it is spoken of a serious pathology of social anxiety which can cause discomfort in the quality of life.

SHYNESS IS NORMAL

All people are shy to different degrees, there are those who know how to disguise better than others, but that does not mean that they stop feeling shy in certain situations in their lives.
Stage fear, modesty, fear of speaking in front of many people or shame. They are all part of the thousands of emotions or feelings that human beings can feel, all of them are a set of what shyness represents.

Is shyness normal? Sure, shyness doesn’t have to be a problem if it doesn’t get worse. If a person can continue to relate to her environment despite her shyness, this is not a major inconvenience in life. There are people who are more reserved, calm and this may cause others to make the wrong impression.

Shyness in front of strangers: These people show little or no confidence towards others they don’t know when you don’t trust, shyness shoots up, and socializing becomes difficult.

Shyness towards people with power: When you feel that you are in a very inferior position to other people. This type of shyness tends to bring out insecurity and inhibit our abilities.
Shyness in public: The fear of being exposed and judged before an audience increases our anxiety.
Fearful shyness: It manifests during the first years of life and basically consists of the fear of being negatively evaluated by others.

CHARACTERISTICS OF SHY PEOPLE

They find it difficult to express their feelings and emotions.
They tend to close in on themselves.
They are afraid to express their opinions.
They don’t like to attract attention.
They suffer from a lot of anxiety about social situations.
They feel pressured to be ridiculed or judged.

8 TIPS TO OVERCOME TIMIDITY

1. accept your negative thoughts

It is important that you learn to deal with your emotions instead of hiding them, fight against your negative thoughts.
What will they think of me? Will I look bad? All these questions that you ask yourself daily, are nothing more than negative doubts that you must change in order to visualize reality without fear.

2. Learn to make mistakes

Shy people tend to hide their social failures and to be very critical of themselves.
In life it is inevitable to make mistakes, you must accept that not everything can always be perfect, seek to create connections without creating difficult claims to fulfill.

3. Don’t avoid social situations

Don’t avoid meetings, large crowds, places where you know you will have to interact with others. The more you expose yourself and practice this skill, the easier you won’t be nervous.
If you consider yourself very shy, avoid going to parties where you don’t know anyone, start small.

4. How to be successful? Plant it

Thinking about what can happen in certain situations will not help you, just create false expectations of what you consider could be a failure, do not fall into mind games. Instead, think about what you can do to succeed and put shyness aside.
The best thing you can do for success is go for it, facing your fears.

5. Show interest

Ask their interests, who they are, what they like. This technique will reduce your anxiety and make it easier for you to socialize.

6. Courage
