Yoga Teacher Training – How Long Do You Have?)

Kim M. Kim M.

Many schools that offer yoga teacher training also offer a mixed mode curriculum.

Your dream of being a yoga teacher could soon become reality. The 200-hour yoga teacher training is a month long in depth study of yoga in an intense environment. Its criteria are a binding requirement put forth by Yoga Alliance for accredited yoga instructors worldwide. Certain schools where satisfy these stringent requirements are then considered RYT (Registered Yoga Teachers) to credential teachers for teaching of yoga worldwide. This is a six month program that introduces students to the basic yoga concepts and theories, develops teaching skills, and prepares students for higher level classes.

It is a good choice for students who want to teach yoga as well as those who have been practicing yoga for some time. Many schools that offer yoga teacher training also offer a mixed mode curriculum. This curriculum varies depending on the type of yoga that the school offers. Some schools may only offer a theoretical understanding of yoga while other schools offer a more practical mixed mode curriculum. It would be best to research the various options available so that you can choose a program that is most suitable for your goals, interests, and lifestyle.

Here are some of the areas covered in the curriculum. Anatomy and Physiology: This area of yoga teacher training deals with all the physical aspects of human anatomy. It includes physiology, diagnostic procedures, causes and effects of diseases, and the proper functioning of the organs in the body. It takes into consideration everything from the arrangement of the urinary and reproductive systems, to the flow of blood through the kidneys and the rest of the body. It provides knowledge of the functions of the urinary tract and organs, the functioning of the spleen, pancreas, stomach, liver, and kidneys, the regulation of emotions, the functioning of the nervous system, the detection of neurological problems such as migraine headaches, and understanding the relationship between yoga positions and physiology.

Meditation and Body Postures: Knowledge of these two subjects is essential to becoming a good yoga teacher. Yoga teachers must know how to recognize the basic poses of yoga, how to perform breathing techniques correctly, and how to instruct students how to stretch properly. They also need to know how to modify yoga positions to fit their students’ needs and capabilities. A good yoga teacher training program will require teachers to learn how to modify and adapt teaching methods based on their students’ abilities and skill levels.

This includes explaining why some postures are better than others and how to apply those postures in different settings. 500-Hour Certification: The requirements for certification as a yoga teacher vary from school to school, but most have a standard curriculum that is required to teach at least 500 hours. Certification requires teachers to successfully complete a teacher training course and pass a final exam, which covers most of the content taught in the curriculum. A teacher’s license is not required to teach yoga; however, most schools require it to prevent any confusion on the part of students who are not certified teachers. Certifications are important, but having a good teacher training program is even more important if you want to teach yoga teachers who are nationally certified. National certification helps protect the interest of current and future yoga teachers against being taken advantage of by other yoga classes or instructors.

Plus, it helps guarantee that the yoga classes you teach are in good hands. Just make sure to check the credentials of any person you plan to hire for your yoga class. As with any profession, it pays to do your research. After all, you want to teach your yoga class in a way that will help your students become successful and well rounded individuals.
